The Columbia (MD) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated held its organizational meeting on February 9, 1973. The group was organized by Roberta M. Briscoe and Celonia B. Walden under the name of Wajamii (Swahili for circle of friends). Installation of the Chapter took place on June 28, 1975 with 23 charter members.

The goal of The Arts facet is to increase and expand exposure to the arts, and support the distinct legacy and rich history of African American art and culture.
The vision of the National Trends and Services facet is to eliminate disparities by reducing barriers to services through advocacy, education, and service.
The mission of the Intern’l Trends and Services facet is to expand the global platform for programs designed and developed to service the educational, health and cultural needs of people of African descent globally.
This facet addresses the academic, cultural, health, social awareness, career development, and mentoring needs of youth to succeed in the 21st century.
